Whether you’re recovering from a wild night, preparing for a big adventure, or just want an excuse to dissolve into a food coma for a few hours, sometimes a breakfast burrito is the only thing that fits the bill.
Many Ashevillians have wondered whether a great breakfast burrito even exists in the 828 — but roll with us, and you just might find the ‘rito of your dreams. Here are the ones that come most highly-recommended in the Land of Sky.

Tienda El Quetzal, 150 Weaverville Rd., Woodfin
If you want a thick, no-frills roll that’s delightfully messy, look no further. Tienda’s spicy wrap comes with scrambled eggs, sausage, jalapenos, Jack cheese, sour cream, and chunky salsa — and it’s available all day long. While this spot doesn’t have a website, you can preview the menu here. LaRumba Restaurant Latino, 105 River Hills Rd.
The housemade tortillas are a happy highlight of LaRumba’s grilled burrito, which comes stuffed to the brim with scrambled eggs, potatoes, Oaxaca cheese, onions, bell peppers, guacamole, and sour cream. The protein choices are vast + exciting, including everything from carne asada to chicken tinga to vegan chorizo.

Sand Hill Kitchen, 491 Sardis Rd.
The legends behind your favorite fried chicken sandwich have also engineered a burrito that, in the words of AVLtoday City Editor Brook, "tastes like a revelation.”
It’s packed with scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese, home fries, herbed Duke’s mayo + your choice of protein, plus the option to add pickled jalapenos (which we highly recommend). The real clincher: it’s sealed with a crispy layer of melted cheese, which gives each bite a lively little crunch. |

Like many shelters across the country, Brother Wolf is receiving a higher volume of unhoused animals than it is currently able to accommodate — and the organization is hoping members of the community can step up and help.

Editor's pick: My ideal breakfast burrito scenario involves a thick, slightly squished burrito that's wrapped in tin foil and loaded with salsa, sour cream, and some kind of zippy sauce. Forks and knives are not allowed, but in a pinch, I'm okay with scooping up bits of fallen debris with a tortilla chip. Missed yesterday's newsletter?
