Check this out — this cutie is a red-spotted newt, 1 of over 35 species of salamanders native to NC, which is home to more species of salamanders than any other place in the world. We also love that they’re an eye-catching part of WNC’s wonderful biodiversity.
If you see one of these cute critters, don’t disturb them unless they need help crossing the street. Otherwise, just admire them and be sure to follow Leave No Trace principles and not clutter up the outdoors, aka their homes.
