Hello Thursday.
March 28 2024
Cat Fly Film Fest is back with its 5th annual festival next month (Aug.26-29). This Asheville-based, nonprofit film festival highlights + supports up-and-coming indie filmmakers. Keep reading for a breakdown of this year's events.
What’s new:
This year's event is 4 days long — breaking the usual weekend-only format of the past — and will include 25+ short films, 1 feature film, and a number of other events including social mixers and multimedia collaborations.
You won’t just be watching Asheville shorts this year either. According to Senior Programmer Rome Widenhouse, “we’ve taken the initiative to broaden the scope of our festival this year by screening films from all over the Southeast.”
There will also be a BYOF — bring your own film — event, which is like an open mic where filmmakers can bring a thumb drive + screen their work at the festival.
Where to attend:
🎬 Fleetwoods Chapel
🎬 The Orange Peel
🎬 Grail Moviehouse
🎬 Asheville School of Film
🎬 A surprise venue TBA
The schedule:
Thursday | Bring Your Own Film Night. ProTip: BYOF is on a first come, first serve basis + your short has to run 7 minutes or less.
Friday | Features 2 workshops + a screening. Black tie attire is encouraged.
Saturday | A low-budget monster special effects class, a rooftop pool party, and a screening showcasing music videos, horror, experimental, and genre-bending content, followed by a late night dance party.
Sunday | A Feature Spotlight screening of “Give and Take,” directed by Emmy nominated WCU professor Andrew Shear and shot in Asheville with a local cast + crew.
VIP pre-sale tickets are available here. Day passes are not yet available, but will be soon.
